Nathalie Borst was born in 1960 in Roubaix. She spent her childhood in Casablanca, Morocco. She now lives and works in Paris.
Olivier Borst was born in 1958 in Paris where he still lives and works. He started his artistic career working with a renowned still life photographer and collaborating on numerous advertising campaigns. In 1988 Olivier opened his own studio. For over 20 years, he produced ad campaigns for major brands such as JVC, Nike, Sony, SNCF, BNP, Nespresso, Ikea, etc.
In the past few years, both, Nathalie & Olivier have been concentrating more on their artistic careers and have been showing a number of photography exhibits around Europe.
The Parisian couple, Nathalie & Olivier Borst, has been working on a research project in photography for the past ten years. Their artistic approach is based on the vagaries of their life.
With their extensive experience as professional photographers, they embark upon the subject of their shared passion - music – capturing in a very sensitive, direct and empirical way the series of homage to the vinyl albums of their youth. They photograph titles such as Patti Smith, John Lennon, Bob Marley, Dire Straits that represent a kind of ideal and nostalgic record library which marks their generation.
In this series, they particularly care for the treatment of the material: the inimitable texture of the vinyl, its color and reflections... These various elements gain different qualities - another sense under the eye of their camera lens. An accurate image of the reality, their pictures are, nevertheless, able to show us another "physical" dimension, at the limit of a poetic vision. The zoom, the lighting, the angle - all these technical means of a photo studio are involved to achieve these effects.
Passionate and informed art lovers, they have a particular taste for objects. Influenced by Irving Penn, Nathalie & Olivier Borst have always been fascinated by the still life and they consider their pictures as such. The choice of their subjects is not an accident... they are witnesses of their intimate relationship and of the world.
